Scalable Security
The 3Com®11 Mbps Wireless LAN
Access Point 8000 provides one of the
most robust, multilayer scalable secu-
rity solutions available. It supports
40-bit WEP encryption, 128-bit
shared encryption, IEEE 802.1x and
RADIUS authentication. Additionally,
it supports Extensible Authentication
Protocols (EAP) that easily integrate
with the network infrastructure.
Where there is no centralized RADIUS
authentication server, the 3Com
Access Point 8000 offers Dynamic
Security Link* technology that enables
wireless users to log on to the network
securely. And the access point’s built-
in database supports up to 1,000
usernames and passwords.
Manageability
Support for SNMP, HP OpenView,
and 3Com Network Supervisor
ensures seamless network integration
and complete network management of
the Access Point 8000 from a central
location. Additional functions and
features can be easily obtained from
the 3Com website via Live Update.
Flexibility
With a transmission distance up to
300 meters (1,000 ft), long-range
antenna options offer flexibility in
determining the area of coverage.
Radio transmit power can be
configured to meet specific coverage
requirements and minimize interfer-
ence, making it easier than ever to
extend the freedom and reliability of
wireless to all those difficult-to-wire
or hard-to-reach locations.
Simple Installation
The Site Survey Utility determines the
best locations and number of access
points for optimal bandwidth and
coverage. The access point’s configu-
ratiuon can be saved using the backup
and restore facility, then extended to
all other access points on the network.
Clear Channel Select automatically
chooses the best-available radio chan-
nel during every power cycle and
Power over Ethernet (included) can
power access points over your Category
5 Ethernet cabling.
