RTX41xx-WSAB (Wireless Sensor Application
Board) provided in the DVK (Development
Kit) is pre-loaded with the module firmware
which supports Co-Located Applications
(CoLA). Application developers may build
their own Co-Located Application using APIs
defined by the module firmware and the CoLA
framework. The application can be downloaded into the
module for execution without having to modify the RTX41xx
module firmware. When the CoLA application is loaded into
the module flash, the system firmware detects the presence
of the application and executes it as a single task running
under the module's oper ating system. The CoLA concept
makes it easy for application developers to build
applications while still having access to all the features
of the underlying system firmware through Application
Programmers Interfaces (APIs).
Easy WEB Configuration
This feature simplifies the process of connecting a RTX41xx
module to a Wi-Fi network. The module can temporarily be put
into a mode where it will act as a Wi-Fi access point (AP), thus
allowing a user to connect to the module directly via a standard
browser using a PC or smart phone and enter the required
credential (SSID and password) to connect to the network.
Easy Web Configuration is based on the SoftAP feature which
can be used beyond configuration, for example as a cable
replacement where a client (such as a smart phone or PC)
can connect to the RTX41xx module in AP mode, even when
no Wi-Fi network is available.

RTX41xx DVK
The RTX41xx DVK (Development Kit) offers a comprehensive
way of evaluating the performance and features of the
RTX41xx 802.11 b/g/n ultra low power modules as well as
the means to develop a custom application (CoLA).
The DVK consists of the WSAB, a docking
station for CoLA download and JTAG debugging,
and associated PC software to control and load
an application (CoLA) on the mounted
RTX41xx module provided on the WSAB.
The terminal application pre-loaded on
the RTX41xx module provides a means to connect to
another client or ser ver on the network through a Wi-Fi
access point and send data efficiently over the network. If
two WSABs are avail able, connection to another RTX41xx on
the same network is possible. The WSAB can be used to
evaluate the current consumption in various modes and for
range testing. The PC software supports a GNU based tool
chain and CoLA Controller for easy application development,
download and debugging. The DVK includes several
reference applications in source code to use as inspiration
for your own development and a zero-cost tool chain.
RTX41xx WSAB
The WSAB consists of the RTX41xx Wi-Fi module mounted
on a small carrier board with integrated sensors. It is
FCC/IC/CE certified and can also be used for low volume pro-
duction or system proof of concept. A WSAB includes:
· Single stream, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi module with on-board
low power application processor, ready for CoLA application
download.
· Two push buttons and a dual color (red/green) LED for
use as application user interface
· External sensor solder points to
connect digital or analog sensors
· 3-axis accelerometer, temperature
sensor and compass
· 28-pin expansion/debug connector
· The power supply supports multi-
ple battery options as well as a lab
supply for development.
