Please note: As part of the Fairchild Semiconductor integration, some of the Fairchild orderable part numbers
will need to change in order to meet ON Semiconductor’s system requirements. Since the ON Semiconductor
product management systems do not have the ability to manage part nomenclature that utilizes an underscore
(_), the underscore (_) in the Fairchild part numbers will be changed to a dash (-). This document may contain
device numbers with an underscore (_). Please check the ON Semiconductor website to verify the updated
device numbers. The most current and up-to-date ordering information can be found at www.onsemi.com. Please
email any questions regarding the system integration to Fairchild_questions@onsemi.com.

General Descript ion
The LCX162374 contains sixteen non-inverting D-type
flip-flops with 3- STATE outp uts and is intende d for bus ori -
ented applications. The device is byte controlled. A buff-
ered clock (CP) and Output Enable (OE) are common to
each byte and can be shorted together for full 16-bit opera-
tion.
The LCX16 2374 i s designed for low vol tage (2.5V or 3.3V)
VCC applications with capability of interfacing to a 5V signal
environment. The 26
:
series resistor in the output helps
reduce output overshoot and undershoot.
The LCX162374 is fabricated with an advanced CMOS
technology to achieve high speed operation while maintain-
ing CMOS low power dissipation.

Functional Description
The LCX162374 consists of sixteen edge-triggered
flip-flops with individual D-type inputs and 3-STATE true
outputs. The dev ice is byte con trolled wi th each byte fun c-
tioning identically, but independent of the other. The control
pins can b e sho rte d t oge the r to obtain ful l 1 6-b i t o per atio n.
Eac h by t e h a s a bu ffered cl oc k a nd bu ffered O ut p ut En ab le
common to all flip-flops within that byte. The description
which follows applies to each byte. Each flip-flop will store
the state of their individual D inputs that meet the setup and
hold time requirements on the LOW-to-HIGH Clock (CPn)
transition. With the Output Enable (OEn) LOW, the con-
tents of the flip-flops are available at the outputs. When
OEn is HIG H, the outputs go to the high imped ance state.
Operation of the OEn input d oes not affect the stat e of the
flip-flops.

Recommended Operating Conditions (Note 6)
Note 4: The Absolute Maximum Ratings are those values beyond which the safety of the device cannot be guaranteed. The device should not be operated
at these limits. The parametric values defined in the Electrical Characteristics tables are not guaranteed at the Absolute Maximum Ra tings. The Recom-
mend ed Operat ing Conditions table will def ine the condit ions for actual device op eration.
Note 5: IO Absolute Maximum Rating must be observed.
Note 6: Floating or unused control inputs must be HIGH or LOW.
