2.2 Setup of the Module Rack
The plug-in PCB has a fixed slot in the module rack. The plug-in PCB comes already installed in its
slot and cannot be changed.
The connections (i.e., serial interfaces) of the plug-in PCB are assigned to the slots for the interface
modules as shown in the following figures.

Internally , the eight-module rack consists of two four-module racks. When daisy chaining is used, the bus
signals are only forwarded via 4 interface modules (e.g., for PROFIBUS cabling).

We recommend that the computer be the active partner of the TTY interface. If this is possible, the
resistors shown for ASM no. 1 are omitted.
If this is not possible (as shown in the drawing), the active partner of the interface must be supplied
with 4 resistors (R = 470 ohm) on the 25-way connector of ASM no. 1.
Remember: If you use this type of wiring, it is imperative that you install all ASMs consecutively
without gaps starting at slot x1. Otherwise, an open, unprotected electrical circuit
will be created. In addition, you must set the jumpers on the plug-in PCB.

The ASM/RS 422 can be operated directly with the STG via a cable. This tests the entire path from
STG via the ASM to the SLG to be tested.
2.3.7 SINEC L1 Cabling
The ASM can only be operated on SINEC L1 when RS 422 or TTY is used. Up to 16 ASMs can be
connected to one SINEC L1 bus. The SINEC L1 address is set on switch bank S1 on the module.
See the “SINEC L1 Bus System” equipment manual (order no: 6ES5998-7LA21) for more details on
configuring and programming the SINEC L1 bus.
