It can be used to decide if the plants in a garden need watering. It can be used in gardens to automate watering plants. It can be used very easily by just inserting the sensor into the soil and reading the output using ADC. NOTE: This sensor is not hardened against contamination or exposure of the control circuitry to water and may be prone to electrolytic corrosion across the probes , please use it for PROTOTYPING ONLY. Reply upvote (0) Rania Hilati on Mar 23,2017 Hello, just a value between 0~1023, which means nothing, but the larger the wetter. Thanks. ae on Apr 14,2017 15:01 PM Reply upvote (0) 0 What is the lifetime of the two electordes ?Thank you and keep up the good work ! Enkidu Aruru on Oct 19,2016 Few months Reply upvote (0) TheFwGuy on May 06,2017 03:46 AM Reply upvote (0) 0 What about durability? can it support six month under ground? Juan Luis on Oct 19,2016 Reply upvote (0) Probably yes, but there are too many variables to consider. I would say 4 to 8 months as maximum and maybe you can prolong it life using it not often (1 reading every 10 or 30 minutes or even longer). The problem is the design. Also consider that you use this sensor to monitor edible plants there is the risk of contamination, the copper of the electrodes will end up in the soil and thus the plant.Would be nice if Groove would do a capacitive moisture sensor instead. TheFwGuy on May 06,2017 03:49 AM Reply upvote (0) 0 When I use this sensor in water, is it possible to detect how much of the sensor electrodes is under water, i.e. use this sensor as a water level indicator? Markus Klingsiek on Oct 19,2016 Reply upvote (0) You'll have to select the 5cmx10cm option. Always select the option where both dimensions are greater than your actual dimensions. The ordner number can be anywhere on your silkscreen, I always put it where I have room for it and create a little Nils Hesse on Oct 20,2016 10:40 AM Reply upvote (0) 0 If I power it up with 3.3 volts, Can it be used with a beaglebone black?I think I will need a voltaje divider, but What about current?Sorry if it's to easy, Im a newbie to this. Thanks GriZmio on Oct 19,2016 Reply upvote (0) 0 What's the max output voltage Nishant Mandiye on Oct 19,2016 Reply upvote (0) Hi.The maximum voltage you can provide is 5v. Jacket Chen on Oct 20,2016 10:45 AM Reply upvote (0) 0 the connections say SIG, blank, Vcc and GND. I know Vcc and GND. but what are the SIG and blank connections..which one is the analog output. Nishant Mandiye on Oct 19,2016 Reply upvote (0) Hi.SIG means signal. So it is the analog input pin. Jacket Chen on Oct 20,2016 10:45 AM Reply upvote (0) 0 What is the working principle? resistance, capacitance or something else Nishant Mandiye on Oct 19,2016 Reply upvote (0) Hi,it is a resistive transducer. Jacket Chen on Oct 20,2016 10:45 AM Reply upvote (0) 0 How can I get the transfer function of this sensor? Reply upvote (0) Ahmed Refaat on Oct 19,2016 Dear Ahmed,if you want to know how to use the transfer function, you can refer to the library file of Arduino.Such as:int analogRead(uint8_t pin){uint8_t low, high;#if defined(__AVR_ATmega1280__) || defined(__AVR_ATmega2560__)if (pin Reply upvote (0) Jacket Chen on Oct 20,2016 10:43 AM 0 Can I use a PIC or microcontroller with A / D converter instead of the Grove - Base Shield to measure humidity? Reply upvote (0) Ismery Roman on Oct 19,2016 Of course you can!But maybe it looks like more complicated.
