Tip
1. INTRODUCTION
Repair Tool 58430--1 is designed to insert wires into
insulation displacement contact (IDC) slots of
AMPLIMITE .050 Series cable plug and receptacle
connectors.
Reasons for reissue of this instruction sheet are
provided in Section 5, REVISION SUMMARY.
2. DESCRIPTION (See Figure 1)
The repair tool, which resembles a small screwdriver,
features a specifically designed tip which allows the
wire to be correctly inserted into the IDC slots of the
connector. The tool is most often used when a wire
insertion has not been made during the termination
process of a machine.
3. USING THE TOOL
When, upon inspection, it is determined that a wire
has not been inserted in the IDC slot, use the tool as
follows:
1. If the connector is out of the machine, lay it on a
suitable work surface. If it is still in the machine,
allowittoremaininplace.
2. Lay the wire over the proper contact slot and
push it into the contact lead--ins using the tip of
your finger.
3. Hold the tool perpendicular to the wire in the slot
and rest the blade of the tool tip on the wire as
shown in Figure 2, Detail A.
4. Apply only enough pressure on the tool handle
to force the wire into the contact slot. Refer to
Figure 2, Detail B.
Avoid applying excessive pressure on the wire
and contact. Too much pressure will result in
bending the contact and render the connector
unusable.
5. Withdraw the tool straight out of the slot.
