INTRODUCTION This Instruction Sheet (IS) covers the application of AMP Tel-Splice Connectors 552795-[ ], 552678-[ ], and 553017-[ ] shown in Figure 1. Read this sheet thoroughly before applying any connectors. 2. DESCRIPTION Each connector consists of a pre-assembled two- piece housing (contact retainer and wire entry). Each insulation-displacement contact will accept solid copper conductor of 19 through 26 AWG with a maximum insulation diameter of .080 in. 3. TERMINATION PROCEDURES Select the appropriate connector for termination. Determine that the wires are within the specified sizes and proceed as follows: 1. For two- or threewire connectors, trim wire ends flush. insert the wires into the wire holes until they bottom in the wire entry housing. For half-tap connectors, place the through wire into the slot of the connector at the desired tap location. Make sure the through wire is fully contained in the slot. Insert the tap wire into the wire hole until it bottoms in the wire entry housing. See Figure 1. 2. Press the connector together with your fingers in order to precrimp and hold the wires in place for final termination. Proceed as follows: +, Check each terminated connector by placing the connector in the gage so the contact is aligned with the gage members as shown in Figure 3. 2. Slide the gage off the connector. It should slide off easily with fittle or no drag. Improperly terminated connectors will stick or have very noticeable drag. lf a gage is not available, make sure the connector is completely bottomed as stated in paragraph 3, step 4 above.
