Read this material, and that packaged with the connectors (IS 7498}, before starting installation. All dimensions presented on this instruc- tion sheet are in inches, unless otherwise stated. 2. DESCRIPTION The card guides are designed to stabilize mother/ daughter type, printed circuit board {pe board) assemblies, and to ensure alignment between printed circuit pads and contacts. There are two basic card guide styles those with a single pc board slot and thase with a double pc board slot. The double slotted guides are available with or RT RADEMARK OF AMP INCCRPORATED without a stand-off feature. They can be used between two connectors or at the end of a single connector. See Figure L. 3. INSTALLING CARD GUIDES The position of the card guides can be determined with a blank daughter board having the same overall width as the functional daughter board, or by using the dimensions shown in Figure 2. The customer controled dimensions {in the chart, Figure 2) include the maximum folerance which, for some applications, may cause a small gap between the end af the connector and the card guide. This is permissible and will NOT be detrimental ta the effective- ness of the appticatian. Determine the location of the card guide, then make mounting holes in the mother board as indicated in Figure 2. 2. Align the card guide with the mounting holes and secure it with two No. 2, Type B, self- tapping screws. The screw should enter the card guide approximately 3/32 in. B. Installing Double Slotted Guides i. Make a card guide cutout in the mother board using the dimensions shown in Figure 2. 2. Insert the card guide straight into the cutout until it snaps into position. Make sure the locking tabs are seated on the board as shown in Figure 1. PAGE 2 OF 2 The card quides with a stand-off feature are used to mount a pe board assembly to a panel. After such guides are installed in the mother board, determine the location of the mounting holes and transfer these dimensions to the panel. Drill 0.091 diameter hales in the panel, then align the card quides and secure them with No. 2, Type 6, self-tapping screws. The screw should enter the quide approximately 3/32 in. 4. DAUGHTER BOARD LAYOUT The width of the daughter board will be determined by the distance between the slots in the card guides. Use the dimensions shawn in Figure 2 to determine the width of the daughter board. The overati dimensions must be within the tolerance shown to assure alignment between the printed circuit pads and the contacts in the connector.
