Maintenance
It is recommended t hat each op er ator of
t he t ool be made aware of, and responsible
for , the followin g main ten an ce ste ps:
1. Remove dust, moist ur e, and other
co nt aminant s wit h a clean brush,
o r soft, lint free clot h.
2. Do no t use any abrasive materials
t hat could damage the too l.
3. Make certain all pins; pivot points
and bear ing surfaces are pr otect ed
with a thin coat of high quality
mach in e oil. Do n ot oil
excessively. T he 64001-4800
(RHT- 2251) was engineered for dur ability, b ut like any fin e piece of equipment it needs
clean in g and lub ric ation for a max imum service life of trou b le-free crimping. A ligh t oil, s uch
as 30 weight auto motive o il used at the oil points shown in Figure 4, every 5, 000 cr imps o r 3
months will sign ificantly e n han ce th e tool life and ens ur e a stable calibration.
4. When tool is not in use, keep t he handles clo sed to pr event object s from becoming lodged in the
crimping dies, and store the t oo l in a clean, dr y area.
Miscrimps or Jams
1. Should this t oo l ever become stuck
or jammed in a par tially clos ed
position, Do Not force the handles
open or closed. Th e tool will open
easily by lift ing the ratchet r elease
lever (See Fig.5).
How To Adjust Tool Preload (See
Figure 5)
Over the life of the t oo l, it may be
necessary t o adjust too l handle pr eload
force. List ed below are the steps r equired t o adjust the crimp ing fo r ce of t he hand too l to obtain pr oper
crimp conditions:
1. Remove the screw and plast ic cover washer. Not e the set ting wheel po sit ion.
2. Lift the setting wheel o ff t he axle. Tu r n t he eccentric axle with a screwdriver.
3. Tur ning the eccentric axle co unter - clockwise ( CCW) will in crease handle force.
4. Replace the setting wheel t o the axle, aligning t he nearest no tch in the set ting wheel t o the dowel
pin.
5. Replace the plast ic cover washer and scr ew.
6. Check the crimp specifications aft er too l handle preload fo r ce is adjusted.
