Testing
Mechanical
The t ensile test, or pull test, is a means of evaluating the mechanical properties of the crimped
co nnectio ns. T he following charts show the UL specifications fo r various wire sizes. T he t ensile
st r engt h is shown in pounds and indicates the minimu m accept able force to break or separ ate the
t er minal fro m the conduct or.

OPERATION
Open the tool by first closing the jaws sufficiently for the ratchet
mechanism t o release.
Crimping Terminals
1. Push up on t he locat or blade and position the t er minal with
t he barrel facing up into the color- coded nest with front
edge o f the bar r el against the locator ( See Figur e 1) .
Release the lo cator blade to ho ld the t er minal in po sitio n.
2. Partially close t he t oo l to ho ld the ter minal in place (S ee
Figure 2).
3. Insert the properly stripped wire into the terminal barrel
(See Figur e 2 and 3). The wires end should but t against the
wir e stop position of the locato r . Cycle t he t ool.
Note: The ta mper p roof ratch et action will n ot release the tool until it has
been fully clo sed.
4. Lift the lo cato r blade or wire sto p and remo ve t he crimped
t er minal. Inspect for pr oper cr imp lo cation, and check for
insulat ion closur e. Lo cator is adjust able up and down t o
keep terminals straight a fter cr imping.
5. If the insulat io n part o f the crimp needs to be adjust ed, first
loosen the M4 screw on the bottom tool jaw, then insert a
3/32 hex wrench (supplied) into the bott om of the lo wer die
(See Figur e 5) . A clockwise (CW) rot ation decreases
insulation crimp while a counter- clockwise (C CW ) rotation i

the te rminal is orien ted up or down
in the t oo l if using unbrazed product,
as th is will provide h igher pull force

Maintenance
It is recommended t hat each op er ator of
t he t ool be made aware of, and responsible
for , the followin g main ten an ce ste ps:
1. Remove dust, moist ur e, and other
co nt aminant s wit h a clean brush,
o r soft, lint free clot h.
2. Do no t use any abrasive materials
t hat could damage the too l.
3. Make certain all pins; pivot points
and bear ing surfaces are pr otect ed
with a thin coat of high quality
mach in e oil. Do n ot oil
excessively. T he 64001-4800
(RHT- 2251) was engineered for dur ability, b ut like any fin e piece of equipment it needs
clean in g and lub ric ation for a max imum service life of trou b le-free crimping. A ligh t oil, s uch
as 30 weight auto motive o il used at the oil points shown in Figure 4, every 5, 000 cr imps o r 3
months will sign ificantly e n han ce th e tool life and ens ur e a stable calibration.
4. When tool is not in use, keep t he handles clo sed to pr event object s from becoming lodged in the
crimping dies, and store the t oo l in a clean, dr y area.
Miscrimps or Jams
1. Should this t oo l ever become stuck
or jammed in a par tially clos ed
position, Do Not force the handles
open or closed. Th e tool will open
easily by lift ing the ratchet r elease
lever (See Fig.5).
How To Adjust Tool Preload (See
Figure 5)
Over the life of the t oo l, it may be
necessary t o adjust too l handle pr eload
force. List ed below are the steps r equired t o adjust the crimp ing fo r ce of t he hand too l to obtain pr oper
crimp conditions:
1. Remove the screw and plast ic cover washer. Not e the set ting wheel po sit ion.
2. Lift the setting wheel o ff t he axle. Tu r n t he eccentric axle with a screwdriver.
3. Tur ning the eccentric axle co unter - clockwise ( CCW) will in crease handle force.
4. Replace the setting wheel t o the axle, aligning t he nearest no tch in the set ting wheel t o the dowel
pin.
5. Replace the plast ic cover washer and scr ew.
6. Check the crimp specifications aft er too l handle preload fo r ce is adjusted.
