1 Summary Description
The STM1061 low po wer voltage detector provides monitoring of bat tery, power-supply, and
regulated s ystem voltages. A precision voltage ref erence and comparat or monitors the VCC
input and compares it with a specified voltage threshold condition. When VCC falls below a
specified trip point threshold, the out put (OUT) is forced low and remains asser t ed as long
as the VCC input remains below VTH– + h ysteresis (VHYST). The STM1061 device is
guaranteed to output the correct logic state for VCC down to 0.7V. They are also designed to
ignore fast tran sient s on VCC.
This small, low po wer device is ideal for portabl e appli cations and is available in space-
saving SOT23-3 a nd SOT3 23-3 (SC70 -3) packages.

to this dev ice.
2.1 OUT (Open Drain)
This is the Open Drain Output. It goes low when VCC drops belo w V TH–, and remains low as
long as VCC is below VTH– + VHYST.
2.2 VCC
This is the Supply voltage and input for the Voltage Detector.
2.3 VSS
Ground, VSS, is the reference for the pow er supply. It must be connec ted to the system
ground.

3 Operation
3.1 Output
The STM1061 Voltage Detector moni tors system voltages from 1.6 to 5 V in 100mV
increments. The detector is designed to ignore fast transients on VCC and has a vol tage
hysteresis (VHYST). The STM106 1 asserts an output signal (O UT) whenever VCC goes
below the Volt age Detect Threshold (VTH). The output signal (OUT) sta ys a sse rted until
VCC goes above the Voltage Detect Release (VTH+). Output voltage (VOUT) is guaranteed
valid down to VCC =0.7V at 25°C.
The STM1061h as an open drain active-low output which will sink current when output is
asserted. Connect a pull-up resistor from OUT to any supply voltage up to 6V (see Figure 6
on page 6). Select a resistor value large enough to register a logic low, and small enough to
register a logic high while all of the input current and leakage paths connec ted to the reset
output line are being supplied. A 10k pull-u p is sufficient in most applications.
The advantages of open drain output is th e ability to connect more open drain outputs in
parallel (wired OR connect ions) as well as con nect the output to a power supply vo ltage
different from VCC.
3.2 Negative-Going VCC Transients and Under shoot
The STM1061 device is relatively im mun e to negative-going VCC transients (glitches). The
graph (see F igure 11 on page 11) indicates the maximum pulse width a negative VCC
transient can have without ca using a reset pulse. As th e magnitud e of the transie nt
increases (further below the threshold), the maximum allowable pulse width decreases . Any
combination of duration and overdrive which lies under the curve will N OT generate a reset
signal.
A 0.1µF bypass ca pacit or mounted as close as possible to the VCC p in provides additional
transient immunity.
