Thekeycomponentsareasensorelement(orPad),atarget(orPuck)andelectronics,basedarounda
proprietaryASIC.
ThePadincludestwoPCBtrackstructureswhicheachformtransmiercoils.Thesegeneratesineand cosine
shapedspaalelectromagnecelds.
ThemovingtargetisformedbyasimpleLCresonantcircuit-thePuck.
Thetransmiercoilsaredrivenwithahighfrequencycarrier(atthePuckresonantfrequency),butmodulated
atalowerfrequencyinquadrature.TheseeldscoupletothePuckandthecumulavecurrentgeneratedinthe
Puckdependsonitsposion.
ThealternangeldproducedbythePuckinducesavoltageinathirdcoilonthePad—thereceiver coil.
TheASICsynchronouslydetectsthisvoltagesignal,leavingonlythemodulatedsignal.Thephaseofthis
modulatedsignalisthencalculatedandgivesadirectmeasurementofthePuckposion.
Thetechnologycanbeconguredforspecicapplicaons–forexample,tosuitaspecicgeometry,orwitha
highresoluonandaccuracycoarse/neoutput,orwithredundantoutputforincreasedreliability.
