New Products MB86275 Space-and Power-Saving Display Controller MB86275 MB86275 was designed using SiP technology to implement an integrated 64M-bit FCRAMTM and logic chip in a single package and thereby realize package downsizing. It also features low power consumption using the power management function. Product Description The development of digital home electronic appliances is currently advancing rapidly. In particular, the portable digital AV equipment market is expanding towards the realization of ubiquitous connectivity. In this context, power-saving features that enable downsizing and extended device operation time are major factors differentiating products. In order to make complex functions identifiable and easy to use, sophisticated and functionrich rending performance is needed. For this, a large-scale buffer memory is essential. FUJITSU has developed the space-saving low-power consumption display controller LSI MB86275 . This product was designed using SiP technology to implement a 64M-bit FCRAM and a logic chip in a single package, achieving a downsized package size. It also realized low power consumption using the power management function. This product helps users to integrate video images taken by portable AV equipment with graphic images to produce high-grade moving images easily. Product Features Tables 1 and 2 list the principal specifications and features of this new series, respectively. Fig.1 presents an internal block diagram and typical system configuration. The new product offers the major features listed below. 32 FIND Vol.21 No.4 2003 Space-saving Conventional display controllers require external graphics memories. This product incorporates a 64M-bit FCRAM as a graphics memory in a single package based on SiP technology. This contributes to the reduced number of onboard component parts and thereby enables the implementation of space-saving systems. Power-saving The power management function enables the control of clock supply in functional block units. Even lower power Photo 1 External View New Products consumption can also be achieved by taking full advantage of the FCRAM power-down mode, self-refresh mode, page size changing and/or various other functions. A maximum of six layers of images (including the video image) can be overlaid while being displayed in individual windows. Alpha blending between the layers is available either with single factor blending, or with pixel-based alpha blending, using one layer as an alpha blending coefficient layer. In addition, the alpha blending function is installed and enables a transparent effect by blending the colors of two images. The blending factor can be selected for individual pixels rather than objects to be rendered, thereby allowing a wide variety of visual effect. Embedded host interface function compatible with PCI V2.1 This product supports a PCI bus interface function that is compatible with the PCI V2.1 adopted in various embedded CPUs and can therefore act as a PCI master or slave. When the product acts as a PCI master, it can automatically transfer the image data in the main memory of the host CPU to the graphics memory in this product. Fig.3 shows an example transfer from a PCI master. This product executes the rendering process by transferring a rendering command set and an attached parameter set (display list) to the built-in FIFO. The display list enables data transfer using PCI burst transfer. The CPU also provides display lists in the graphics memory that can be automatically loaded and executed by the graphics LSI. This enhances the overall system performance by enabling the system to make efficient use of the host CPU bus. Various communication functions installed This product incorporates communication control functions that support the I2C interface*3, GPIO*4, serial IO. Evaluation and Development Environment For evaluation and prior software development, the display controller access library and reference board are available. This board can be connected to the PCI bus of personal computers running WindowsNT /2000. The access library is available in the form of a source program under a licensing agreement to meet the specific needs of optimization and reconfiguration for embedded applications.
