Amphenol’s Fiber Optic Te rmini Product Of fering
MIL-PRF-29504 - Pin and socket termini that feature
high precision, pre-radiused ceramic ferrules to help
improve insertion loss performance and reduce pol-
ishing time. Products are available in both single
mode and multi-mode versions.The socket has a
plastic protective shroud over the ceramic alignment
sleeve that incorporates a built-in anti-rotation fea-
ture.
HD20 ter m ini - Pin and socket termini that have the
same benefits of the MIL-PRF-29504 termini, but in a
smaller, size 20 contact that allows for increased
density in D38999 connector shells.
90° term ini - Pin and socket 90° multi-mode termini
in size 16 are available. Consult Amphenol Aero-
space for availability of 90° size 20 term ini.
ARINC 801 termini - G enderless fiber optic termini
that use a precision 1.25 mm ceramic ferrule. Preci-
sion inserts with guide pins and keyed termini maxi-
mize multi-mode and single mode performance.
ARINC 801 term ini facilitate an angled polish which
is advantageous for lower r eturn loss.
MT ferrules - Industry-standard, very high density
plastic ferrules available in either 12-fiber or 24-fiber
versions, in multi-mode PC, single mode PC, and
single mode APC configurations.

Ampheno l int roduced the MIL -C-38999 Series III connector in the mid-1970’s.
Amphe nol has continued since the 70’s to im prove performance and reliability that makes this design of the 38999
Series III the con nector of choice by system designers worldwide.
During t he m id-1980’s t he 38999 Series III connector was selected as th e platform to use for the ne w M IL-T-29504
size 16 fiber optic termini.
Design improvement for fib er optics to metal clip retention syste m.
The introduction of M IL-T-29504 termini into a connector not desi gned for spring-loaded termini yielded the first
improvement of the basic 38999 for use with fi ber optics. In 1987, Amphenol introduced the CF-52 seri es connec-
tor with a beryllium-copper retent ion clip for improved t ermini stability inside the connector insert.

MIL-DTL-38999 Series III, Tight Tolerance styles
Design i mprovem ents for fiber optics to tighter tol er-
ances and integrated wa ve w ashers.
Through the 1990’s Amphenol has continued to modify
the design of the 38999 to improve the performance of
the connector when using fiber opt ic termini. The CF-50
series connec tor emplo ys a mo dified master key and pre-
cisi on tooling to precisely align the insert cavities duri ng
connector mating. The CF-50 also integrates a wave
w asher in the cou pli ng m echanism to reduce the possibil-
ity of connectors de-mati ng duri ng peri ods of high vibra-
tion.
The illustration shows the key features of the MI L-
DTL-38999 CF-50 - The highest opt ical performance
connector.
1. Beryll ium-copper retenti on clip for improved
termini stability.
2. Precision-ali gned inserts
3. Modified master ke y
4. Integrated wave washer for impr oved
performance in high vibration envir onm ents.

Fiber Optic Termini for LIne Replaceable
Module (LRM) Connecto rs
Fiber optic hi gh speed tr ansmission is av ai lable within
LRM connectors for use in advanced avionics sys-
tems. Optical performance of fiber optic termini within
the LRM connectors are the same as termini used in
cylindric al connectors.
Modified MIL-PRF-29504/4, /5, size 16, straight ter-
mini (shown in drawings below) or 90° styles can be
configured into LRM interconnects. Termini for rect-
angular LRM connectors are determined by insert and
shell style of the connector. For ordering information
for LRM connectors consult Amphenol Aerospace.
LRM interconnects can have hybrid arrangements of

Amphenol® LRM Connector Series
LRM connectors are high performance, high density interconnects, spe-
cifically designed to connect printed circ uit boards. The Amphenol Brush
contact technology is the foundation of the LRM connector series.
Features, benefits and options of LRM connectors include:
GEN-X cont act pattern - has .075 inch spacing along the row with .060
inch between rows, of fset .0375 inc h between rows on the mating f ace.
Stagge red grid contact pattern - has .100 inch spacing along the row
with .050 inch betw een rows, off set .050 inch between rows on the mat-
ing face
Stagger ed gr id Airflow-thru contact patter n - for wider or oversized board
packages between 0.235 and 0.425 inches. Wider spacing in center also
provides for more airfl ow cooli ng of the con nector inserts.
Backplane design versatility:
• Ava il able with thr ough-hole solder posts or with compliant pins for
solderl ess applications
• Compl iant/solderless backplane con tacts are fr ont replaceable
ESD Protecti on - Stag gered grid and G EN-X LRM connect ors ar e typic ally
provided with ESD (Electrostati c Discharge) prot ection. They utili ze the
Faraday Cage principal to shunt electrostatic dischar ge events to the con-
ductive enclosure on which the connector is mounted, thus never al lowing
the high voltage, high curr ent dis charge event to resi de on any contacts.
Wide ra nge of PCB/ heat sin k accom m odations with standard surface
moun t tails or optional flex-circui t termi nati on
Polarizat ion key s - up to 4096 possi ble ke ying positions
Vibration: Superior intermittency-free per formance under vibr ation
Dielectric wit hstanding voltage: Stagger ed grid and GEN-X styles:
100 volts at sea level (due to the incorporat ion of ESD shield)
Temperature range:
• Suitable for vapor phase solderin g
• Normal operating temperature is –65°C to +125°C
