SC Cable Assemblies
SC cable assemblies are designed for the most advanced fiber optic systems providing
exceptional stability and low reflection (single-mode). SC cable assemblies are well suited
for high-density applications. The SC connector uses a rectangular, molded design for
quick, easy push-pull installation. This design prevents ferrule rotation and axial damage
on the fiber contact points, reducing the potential for damage from mechanical vibration.
Features
Meets or exceeds Telcordia GR-326
Ceramic ferrule for durability
8° Angled PC polish for single-mode
ST Cable Assemblies
The ST connector’s nonslip housing makes installation quick and easy. The bayonet style
coupling uses a convenient push-twist-and-lock method for easy mounting and is keyed to
ensure easy alignment. The ST connector provides durable, quick, economical and reliable
terminations.

Simplex Cable Assemblies
LC Cable Assemblies - Simplex
The LC connector reduces system cost by doubling the fiber density in shelves and
outlets without sacrificing performance. Assemblies are manufactured and factory tested
to provide the high performance link needed in today’s high speed telephony, data, and
broadband networks. Available in both single-mode (blue housing) and multimode (beige
housing) versions.
FC Cable Assemblies
The FC connector’s cylindrical nonslip surface allows for fast and easy installation while
the keyed, threaded metallic coupling provides durable, reliable connections. A spring
loaded, pull-proof zirconia ferrule optimizes performance and prevents rotational damage
during mating and disconnections. Standard boot colors are green (angled single-mode),
blue (single-mode), and black (multimode).

MU Cable Assemblies - Simplex
MU assemblies are very useful in many high-density applications. While the MU connector
is 50% smaller than the SC connector, it maintains high optical performance. The MU’s
latchless design makes it the choice for backplane applications where blind-mating/
demating is required. In backplane applications where little demating is required and high-
density is the priority, MU-J is a useful alternative to the MU-A.

Duplex Cable Assemblies
Zipcord Assemblies
The zipcord tight-buffered cordage contains two tubes of fiber which are tight buffered
with a 900µm jacket. This construction is zipped apart to the desired length. These are
connectorized on the 3mm, 2.0mm or 1.6mm assembly. Connectors can be duplexed
with clips.
Dual-Link Cable Assemblies
Dual-link connectorized assemblies consist of 2.85mm outer jacket with two PVC 900µm
coated fibers, connectorized on the 900µm legs. Standard length of this breakout is
1/2 meter. If an application requires 3.0mm furcation, use of a zipcord assemby is
recommended.
MT-RJ Assemblies
MT-RJ assemblies are ideally suited for high-density applications, doubling the fiber count
in shelves and outlets. The MT-RJ is very cost effective allowing the number of ports to
be doubled without doubling the cost of the electronics. The compact two fiber connector
features a snag-proof latching mechanism for worry free installation.

MTP cable assemblies are designed for high-density and multi-fiber interconnect applica-
tions. These MTP terminations are most commonly used in fiber rich environments, where
space is a premium. MTP cable assemblies provide a reliable interface for 8 and 12 fiber
terminations. Assemblies include Patchcords, Pigtails and Fanouts.

All FRSC cables are factory tested to meet stringent installation performance demands. This cable design makes splicing from an
optical node to a closure fast, easy and reliable. It significantly reduces splicing time and effort by eliminating a fusion splice point. FRSC
cables are available in standard and custom lengths in 2-12 terminations with various connector types such as SC/APC, SC/UPC, FC/APC,
FC/UPC and LC/UPC.

Lensed Fiber Technology
Lensed fibers are rapidly becoming the method of choice for interfacing optical fiber to
active devices and waveguides. Lensing technology provides highly efficient couplings
while consuming a fraction of the space and costs of bulk optic alternatives.
AFL Telecommunications’ proprietary laser shaping technology enables high-end lenses
to be manufactured in volume at low costs. The laser quickly shapes the fiber tip into a
precise geometry using an optimized numerical solution based on the targeted far-field
profile. In-line far-field monitoring ensures repeatability and high coupling efficiency.
This technology provides 10 times the throughput of conventional mechanical methods.
Furthermore, the yield loss from laser shaping is less than one percent, compared to
10-20 percent for mechanical matching. These exceptional yields allow high-value fiber
(i.e. FBGs, PM fiber, metalized fiber, etc.) to be lensed at minimal costs while maintaining
process flow flexibility.
AFL Telecommunications’ Advanced Fiber Assembly platform allows OEMs to consolidate
suppliers of metalized fiber, hermetic sleeves, AR coatings, Lensing, Fiber Bragg Gratings
and connectorization into a single source for the entire pigtail assembly.
Features
Lensed fiber technology offers advantages over traditional mechanical and fusion
lensing methods;
Increased coupling efficiency – lensed fiber offers precise geometry and surface finish
compared to mechanical/fusion methods
Increased performance – laser machining offers optimization around focal length, spot
size and far-field parameters
Increased reliability – Far-field feedback loop eliminates rework and inspections
Increased reproducibility and flexibility – lensing provides optimized geometry created by
numerical solution
Increased Value – high yields enable packaging of customized total solutions

FAST-SC & FAST-ST Connectors
AFLs new FAST Connectors are pre-polished, field installable connectors that eliminate the
need for hand polishing in the field. FAST Connectors provide an immediate termination to
either single-mode or multimode fibers.
FAST Connectors feature a pre-stubbed factory-polished ferrule that couples to the fiber
being terminated by precision mechanical alignment and insures low loss with a propri-
etary gel. Each FAST Connector comes with a factory-installed wedge clip that holds the
clamping device open while the fiber is inserted. Once the fiber is in place, the wedge clip
is removed and discarded.

Buildout-Style Attenuators
Buildout-style attenuators provide superior performance for all single-mode in line attenu-
ation requirements. Standard attenuation values are 3, 5, 10, 15 and 20dB. Buildout
attenuators are available in SC, ST, LC, and FC connector styles. They use no air gap,
filters or light path discontinuities. Attenuation is achieved by controlled absorption of light
energy. This results in a polarization insensitive device with high power handling capability,
environmentally stable and exceptionally responsive across a wide bandpass range.
