R1514x Series 150mA 36V Input VR The R1514x Series are CMOS-based voltage regulators featuring 150mA output current and 36V input voltage. In addition to a fold-back protection circuit built into conventional regulators, R1514x contains a thermal shutdown circuit. Besides the low supply current by CMOS, the operating temperature is -40C to 105C and the maximum input voltage is 36V, the R1514x series are very suitable for power source of car accessories. The R1514x Series have achieved the absolute maximum rating as high as 50V (peak input voltage: 60V < 200ms). This value represents the world's lowest supply current of regulators with an input voltage of 36V. A battery saving system can be built, because the supply current is low in the operating mode as well as in standby mode. The Thermal Shutdown Circuit stops operation of the regulator when the junction temperature of the regulator exceeds 150C. Moreover, when the junction temperature decreases to a level below 125C after the regulator has stopped, the regulator resumes to normal operation. As a result, the operation of the Thermal Shutdown Circuit causes the regulator repeatedly to turn OFF and ON till the causes of overheating are removed. As a consequence, a pulse shaped output voltage occurs. Care should be taken to prevent this situation. In the datasheet it is shown as a thermal shutdown detection temperature (TTSD) and a thermal shutdown release temperature (TTSR).
