Brief Description
The ZWIR4512 Development Kit is a set of three cir-
cuit boards intended as an evaluation and applica-
tion development platform for ZMDI’s ZWIR4512
6LoWPAN modules. 6LoWPAN is an Internet Eng-
ineering Task Force (IETF) standard for building
wireless, low-power IP-based sensor and device
networks. These networks can easily be integrated
into existing IT infrastructure or operate autono-
mously.
Each Development Board provides an Ethernet and
USB interface to connect with the user’s PC. The
USB is used as a virtual COM port and provides the
power supply for JTAG programming and debug-
ging. The Ethernet interface is provided to easily
integrate the 6LoWPAN network into existing net-
work infrastructure. Push buttons and LEDs are
available as an on-board user interfa ce.
All supply and general purpose I/O pins of the
module are accessible via headers arranged in a
2.54 mm pattern so that application circuitry can be
easily prototyped using a breadboard.
The Development Kit comes with a DVD containing
firmware libraries, documentation and example pro-
grams. Firmware libraries include an operating sys-
tem, ZMDI’s mesh-routing-enabled 6LoWPAN stack,
IP-Security (IPSec) and Internet Key Exchange ver-
sion 2 (IKEv2) protocol support, as well as support
for over-the-air (OTA) updates and different periph-
eral libraries.
Ethernet gateway firmware is provided with the kit.
This firmware allows transparent integration of sen-
sor networks into existing Ethernet networks.
All delivered circuit boards are preprogrammed with
firmware allowing range testing and UART data
transmission “out of the box.”
No external JTAG adaptor is required, as each cir-
cuit board has its own JTAG on-board. Access to the
JTAG adaptor is provided over the USB interface.
