DESCRIPTION
The USB04xx and USBxxC Series of devices are low capacitance TVS arrays available in a SOT-143 package. These
devices are designed to protect Ethernet data I/O ports against the damaging eects of ESD and EFT transient threats.
The USB04xx series are unidireconal devices used for common mode protecon from line to ground. The USB04xxC
series are bidireconal devices typically used for dierenal mode on balanced lines.
Voltages range from 3.3 to 24 volts for both conguraons. Each series provides ESD protecon to > 25 kilovolts with
a peak pulse power rang of 350 Was for an 8/20µs waveshape. The USB04xx and USBxxC series are designed to
meet and exceed the IEC 61000-4-2 and IEC 61000-4-4 requirements.

Two USB04xx (Unidireconal) in a Common-Mode conguraon. Circuit connecvity is as follows:
Device 1: Line 1(D+) is connected to pins 2 and 3.
Device 2: Line 2(D-) is connected to pins 2 and 3.
Device 1 and 2: Pins 1 and 4 connected to ground

One USB04xxC (Bidireconal) in a Dierenal-Mode conguraon. Circuit connecvity is as follow:
Line 1 (RX) is connected to pins 1 and 4.
Line 2 (TX) is connected to pins 2 and 3.
CIRCUIT BOARD RECOMMENDATIONS
Circuit board layout is crical for electromagnec compability protecon. The following guidelines are recommended:
The protecon device should be placed near the input terminals or connectors, the device will divert the transient current
immediately before it can be coupled into the nearby traces.
The path length between the TVS device and the protected line should be minimized.
All conducve loops including power and ground loops should be minimized.
The transient current return path to ground should be kept as short as possible to reduce parasic inductance.
Ground planes should be used whenever possible. For mullayer PCBs, use ground vias.
