| Respirator Factsheet Nuisance Level Acid Gas Respirator: 9915 FEATURES _ The 3M 9915 provides lightweight, effective, comfortable and hygienic respiratory protection against dusts and mists. In addition it offers relief against nuisance level acid gases found in many industrial processes. The twin strap design, foam nose seal and aluminium noseclip ensure a good face seal, The 3M 9915 can be used to provide relief from nuisance levels of acid gases including Hydrogen Fluoride, Sulphur Dioxide, Chlorine and many of the contaminants found in smog. It can also be used to provide protection against airborne acid crystaline powder. The 3M 9915 features an off-the-face design with low breathing resistance which represents a convenient alternative to the traditional rubber half-mask used against nuisance levels of acid gas. 3M has independent laboratory data to support the use of the 3M 9915 for nuisance level (below OEL) acid gases. The 3M 9915 is exempt from the costly time consuming maintenance requirements of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 1988 (COSHH) which stipulate the inspection, cleaning and record keeping requirements of a respiratory protection programme. It represents a maintenance-free solution to the combined hazards of nuisance level acid gases and dusts. TYPICAL INDUSTRY APPLICATIONS _____ Paper mills Brewers Food processors Speciality metal reduction Chemical processing Smog in city streets Battery manufacture Power stations/Plants - coal fired PERFORMANCE DATA_ MH The 3M 9915 meets the performance requirements of FET 1. (See Approvals.) MB The 9915 is at least 78% efficient against fine dusts down to 0.5 micron and offers a protection factor of 4 times the Occupational Exposure Limit (OEL), ie. it can be used in atmospheres containing up to 4 times the OEL of dust contaminant, as specified in Guidance Note FH40 from the Health & Safety Executive. MB Offers relief from low levels (below the OEL) of acid gases and certain organic vapours with good warning properties, eg. taste or smell. Manufacturers laboratory test data supports this claim. Not for use against acid gases above the OEL (refer to 3M Gas & Vapour range). EE Utilises a specially treated charcoal impregnated filter media with low breathing resistance. The 3M 9915 should remain bagged before use to ensure that absorbent capacity is not reduced. MB The 3M 9915 should not be used for escape purposes and should be used in well ventilated areas (minimum 19.5% oxygen). M@ The effective life of the respirator depends upon the nature and concentration of the acid gas concerned. Substances should have good warning properties, eg. taste or smell and the respirator should be disposed of immediately once breakthrough is detected. BB Coloured dark blue for easy identification. WE Weight: 10 grammes. APPROVALS MH Meets the requirements of HSE Approved Standard for filtering facepiece dust respirators, EN149 FFP1. Wl Is suitable for use under COSHH, CAW, CLAW and IRR. MB Laboratory tested for use below the OEL against nuisance levels of acid gases and certain organic vapours with good warning properties. Capable of offering relief against low levels of Hydrogen Fluoride, Sulphur Dioxide and Chlorine. GUIDANCE ON CORRECT USAGE Respiratory Protection is only effective if it is correctly fitted and used throughout the time when exposed to hazards. Incorrect fitting can reduce respirator effectiveness. Please refer to the Fitting Instructions. (See overleaf). FITTING INSTRUCTIONS Nuisance Level Acid Gas Respirator: 9915 Cup respirator under chin with metal noseclip facing upwards. Cup respirator in hand, with metal noseclip at A fingertips, allowing straps to hang freely below hand. Place the bottom elastic strap around the head, just below the ears. Untwist the straps. Place the top elastic strap around the head, above the ears. Using both hands, mould metal To check fit, cup both hands over respirator nosepiece to and exhale shape of lower vigorously. part of nose. If air flows around nose, tighten nosepiece. If air leaks at respirator edges, work straps back along the sides of the head. Do not use with beards or other facial hair that prevent direct contact between the face and the edge of the respirator. If you cannot achieve a proper fit, do not enter the contaminated area.
