Description
Corning Lasertron's new OptiLockTM family of 980 nm fiber Bragg grating stabilized
(BGS) pump lasers is available in production volumes with fiber-coupled optical
kink-free powers up to 200 mW at center wavelengths from 973 to 986 nm.
In addition to extraordinary wavelength-locking capabilities (zero probability of
wavelength unlocking), Corning Lasertron OptiLockTM BGS pump lasers also feature
superb power stability over an extended range of operating powers, temperatures and time.
Other key performance characteristics of these devices such as tracking ratio, monitor
photo-detector current, and threshold current remain consistently stable regardless of
stress, aging and changes in fiber grating orientation. Power in band, spectral width, and
side mode suppression ratio also remain stable under such conditions.
These BGS pump lasers are critical components in amplifiers for use in
dense-wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) fiber-optic transmission systems
requiring wide bandwidth, gain-flattened, stable performance. OptiLockTM pump lasers
maintain long-term performance of DWDM networks by eliminating wavelength unlocking
that occurs as a result of handling, aging, or inevitable change in fiber grating orientation
and stress.
The shift to higher channel counts requires amplifiers using high-power pumps with
extremely stable dynamic performance. These new BGS pumps enable our customers to
provide these state-of-the-art amplifiers to end users of the latest DWDM systems. The
QLM9P48 series of pump lasers is also suitable for telecom, CATV and data communications
applications which require a fixed, narrow-band, stable spectrum over large ranges of
operating powers and temperatures over an extended time period.
Corning Lasertron OptiLockTM BGS pump lasers feature designed-in reliability based
on unparalleled experience with 980 nm pump lasers, and over 600 million cumulative
operating hours of more than 60,000 devices in the field.
This product is also available in a low-profile package; contact Corning Lasertron for

Ordering Information
Base model QLM9P48ƒllpp, where:
ƒ = 2 for 250 µm FlexcorTM fiber; 9 for 900 µm FlexcorTM fiber
ll = the last two digits of the pump's center emission wavelength
(e.g. ll = 75 for 975 nm center emission wavelength)
pp = the pump kink-free power (in 10 mW increments) divided by ten
(e.g. pp = 08 for 80 mW, pp= 16 for 160 mW and pp=17 for 165 mW).
For example, to order an OptiLockTM fiber Bragg grating stabilized pump laser with
975 nm center emission wavelength, 165 mW kink-free power, and 250 µm FlexcorTM fiber,
the complete model number would be QLM9P4827517.
