ASAHI KASEI [AKD4117] AKD4117 AK4117 Evaluation Board Rev.A GENERAL DESCRIPTION AKD4117 is the evaluation board for AK4117, 192kHz digital audio transceiver. This has optical and BNC connector to interface with other digital audio equipment. The AKD4117 is also available to output analog data via on-board DAC, AK4394. n Ordering guide AKD4117 --- Evaluation board for AK4117 (A cable for connecting with printer port of IBM-AT compatible PC and a control software are packed with this.) AKD4117 Block Diagram *Circuit diagram and PCB layout are attached at the end of this manual. -1- 2002/12 ASAHI KASEI [AKD4117] n Evaluation modes (1) Evaluation for DIR (Digital output) S/PDIF in(optical or BNC) - AK4117 - Serial Data out(10pin port) (2) Evaluation for DIR(analog output via DAC) S/PDIF in(optical or BNC) - AK4117 - DAC(AK4394) - Analog out(Balance XLR) n Operating sequence (1) Set up the power supply lines. [-12V] (Blue) = -12 ~ -15V [+12V] (Orange) = +12 ~ +15V [Analog 5V] (Red) = 5V : Open when the JP15(REG5V) is short. [AGND] (Black) = 0V [Digital 5V] (Red) = 5V [DGND] (Black) = 0V [Analog 3V] (Green) = 3.3V : Open when the JP13(REG3V) is short. [AGND2] (Black) = 0V [Digital 3V] (Green) = 3.3V Each supply line should be distributed from the power supply unit. (2) Set up the evaluation mode and jumper pins. (See p.3.) (3) Connect cables. (4) Power on. The AK4117 and AK4394 should be reset once bringing PDN(SW3) "L" upon power-up. (5) Set up software. Both AK4117 and AK4394 are fixed to serial control mode. In the serial mode, the IBM-AT compatible PC can control both AK4117 and AK4394 by using the printer port and PORT2 on the AKD4117. Connect PORT2 (uP-I/F) with PC by 10-line flat cable packed with the AKD4117. 10 PORT2 uP-I/F 9 CSN CCLK CDTI CDTO 2 Take care of the direction of connector. There is a mark at pin#1. Set to "H" during operation. Bring to "L" once after the power is supplied. n LED indication 1 2 INT0 INT1 Bright when INT0 pin goes to "H". Bright when INT1 pin goes to "H". n Set-up of AK4394 (for the evaluation via DAC. Refer the AK4394 datasheet) In case of evaluating via DAC(AK4394), the AK4394 needs to be controlled by serial control. The default set-up of AK4394 audio format is 16bit right justified, but AK4117 is left justified slave mode. Please adjust those two audio formats. Connect IBM-AT compatible PC with AKD4117 by 10-line type flat cable (packed with AKD4117). Take care of the direction of 10pin header. (Please install the driver in the floppy-disk when this control software is used on Windows 2000/XP. Please refer "Installation Manual of Control Software Driver by AKM device control software". In case of Windows95/98/ME, this installation is not needed. This control software does not operate on Windows NT.) 3. Insert the CD-ROM labeled "AK4117 Evaluation Kit" into the CD-ROM drive. 4. Access the CD-ROM drive and double-click the icon of "akd4117_1.exe" and "akd4117_2.exe" to set up the control program. 5. Then please evaluate according to the follows. n Operation flow Keep the following flow. 1. Set up the control program according to explanation above. 2. Click "Port Setup" button. 3. Then set up the dialog and input data. n Explanation of each buttons 1. [Port Setup] : set up the printer port. 2. [Write default] : initialize the register of AK4117. 3. [All read] : read all registers. 4. [Read] : read data from each register. 5. [Write] : write data to each register. If you want to write the input data to AK4117, click "OK" button. If not, click "Cancel" button. n Indication of data Input data is indicated on the register map. Red letter indicates "H" or "1" and blue one indicates "L" or "0".
