GENERAL DESCRIPTION PACKAGE OUTLINE
The NJW4182 is a 100mA output Low dropout regulator with h i g h
maximum input v o l ta ge, ultra-low current consumption and small package.
Due to the low current consumption, the NJW4182 is suit able
for light load and continuously running applications such as
power management microprocessor, RTC, protection circuit,
security system and so on.

*Input Capacitor CIN
Input Capacitor CIN is required to prevent oscillation and reduce power supply ripple for applications when high
power supply impedance or a long power supply line.
Therefore, use the recommended CIN value (refer to conditions of ELECTRIC CHARACTERISTIC) or larger and
should connect between GND and VIN as shortest path as possible to avoid the problem.
*Output Capacitor CO
Output capacitor (CO) will be required for a phase compensation of the internal error amplifier.
The capacitance and the equivalent series resistance (ESR) influence to stable operation of the regulator.
Use of a smaller CO may cause excess output noise or oscillation of the regulator due to lack of the phase
compensation.
On the other hand, Use of a larger CO reduces output noise and ripple output, and also improves output
transient response when rapid load change.
Therefore, use the recommended CO value (refer to conditions of ELECTRIC CHARACTERISTIC) or larger
and should connect between GND and VOUT as shortest path as possible for stable operation
The recommended cap acitance depends on the output volt age rank. Especially, low voltage regulator requires larger
CO value.
In addition, you should consider varied characteristics of capacitor (a frequency characteristic, a temperature
characteristic, a DC bias c haracteristic and so on) and unevenness peculiar to a capacitor supplier enough.
When selecting CO, recommend that have withstand voltage margin against output vo ltage and superior temperature
characteristic though this product is designed stability works with wide range ESR of capacitor including low ESR
products.

*Overshoot of Ou tput Voltage
Transient fluctuation of output voltage tends to be large compared to other typical regulators because the NJ W4182 is
designed with the concept of low current consumption characteristics.
In general, overshoot or undershoot of output voltage is more likely to occur when the following c ases.
When input voltage or output current fluctuate sharply
When output cap acitance is small
When output load is light
When st art up from the condition of narrow voltage difference between an Input and an output.
The NJW4182 can reduce overshoot volta ge co mpared to o ther low curre nt consu mption product s by a buil t-in oversh oot
protection (OSP).
However, very large overshoot may occur because of delay of th e OSP circuit w hen the input voltag e rises from betw een 2.0V
and 2.5V.
The value of overshoot varies wi th co mposite condition s, plea se re fer the abov e and check th e actua l condi tion.
In addition, the following mea sures will be mentioned as a method to reduce the overshoot value.
a. By increasing the input and output capacitors to absorb overshoot value.
b. Adjust the rising speed o f the i nput vol tage, to avoid rising from be tween 2. 0V and 2. 5V.
