ERNIPRESS Shrouded Header Connectors Series LPV 10... 64 Constructed as per MIL-C-83503 and DIN 41651 using press-in technology General The plug connector provides the familiar shroud, ensuring mechanical torsion and shock protection for the contacts. It is available in versions with latches and without latches (low profile). These swivelling clips safeguard the plug connection and serve as an ejector for the female connector when opening. The straight terminals of the plug connectors have an elastic press-in zone (EE). There are separate data sheets for the male connectors with straight and right angle solder terminals. The socket connectors of the LPV series are IDC-type which pierce the insulation and contact the cable conductors with high pressure. This makes it possible to connect the cable in one process, without prior stripping, with a maximum of 64 contacts. Requirements of the Printed Board When manufacturing printed boards for press-in technology, observance of the corresponding DIN recommendations is an important prerequisite. The dimensions of the plated-through holes and the hole patterns are described in DIN 41611 and DIN IEC 352 (in preparation). The quality and durability of a press-in connection are influenced by the following factors: a.) Selection of the base material of the printed board. in order to meet UL requirements, epoxy glass fiber of the tyoe Hgw 2372.1 as per DIN 7735, FR 4 is principally used. Press-in and Retention Forces The elastic press-in zone, guarantees high elasticity and thus adjustment to large hole tolerances. It also guarantees a high level of edge loading in the copper sleeve allowing a gas-tight, corrosion-proof and mechanically stable connection. As a result of the particular shape of the press-in zone, press-in forces occur which do not damage or impair the metal plating of the hole. Uniform thickness of the metal plating (Cu, Sn) over the entire printed board is achieved by means of specifically-targeted rack technology, flexible anode arrangement, continuous bath control and suitably matched layout. c.} Constant control of the production process, the drill hole diameter and positional accuracy, correct roughness of the drill hole wall and the drill direction. d.) Minimum residual ring width of 0.1mm, finished hole tolerances, thickness measurements, fault-free conductive pattern. Depending on the thickness of the printed board, the typical average values for retention force are 40-70N per contact.
