The Company
KRL Electronics, a division of Bantry Components, Inc., is a
thrity-one year old company which was purchased in 1985, by
Bernard J. Perry, Sr., a resistor pioneer, and sold to Bernard J.
Perry, Jr., in 1992 as a continuation of the Perry's commitment to
the local community and the resistor industry.
KRL offers precision and power wirewound resistors on a
worldwide basis and is known worldide as a supplier of quality
components with on-time delivery.
The KRL customer base includes: the computer, power supply,
health, avionics, instrumentation, telecommunications and space
industries. We are proud of our global reputation and worldwide
recognition. By offering a commitment to manufacturing quality,
continuous renewed product design and innovation, customer
service and a "can-do" attitude, KRL continues to earn and
maintain customer and vendor loyalty.
Our roots go back to 1948 when Mr. Perry Sr. opened the Daven
Company as General Manager, and his subsequent founding of
RCL Electronics in 1960, from which no fewer than four "spin-
off" resistor companies were born. Two companies are local to
New Hampshire, KRL being one of the two.
RCL employed over 600 employees locally under the
administration of Mr. Perry Sr., and eventually went down to less
than 40 employees after Mr. Perry Sr. retired in 1969. Under the
direction of the Perry family, RCL was known to be the world's
leader in Precision Wirewound Resistors, both for sales and
innovation.
Mr. Perry came out of retirement in 1985, recruited Mr. Perry Jr.,
and purchased KRL Electronics, Inc. Starting with 47 employees
and $700,000 in annual sales, KRL Electronics, division of
Bantry Components, Inc. has grown from 47 to 110 employees;
from 1 shift to 2 shifts. With added capacity through automation
it is believed that the headcount will increase to 125-140
employees in the near future.
Over the past sixteen years, KRL has maintained an aggressive
approach to the migration of electronics from "through-hole"
component printed circuit board (PCB) mounting to the new
"SMT" surface-mount configuration for wirewound resistors.
Facility expansions in 1998 saw a 214% increase in
manufacturing space from 7,000 square feet to 17,000 square
feet. The company began using two shifts in 1993 in order to
delay physical plant expansion.
Administration, Sales, Marketing, Finance, Engineering,
Purchasing, Personnel, Shipping, Receiving, Warehousing, and
Manufacturing functions are all housed in our 17,000 square foot
plant.
Manufacturing technologies employed by KRL include: coil
winding, resistance welding, percussive arc welding, resistance
trimming calibration, thermoset transfer molding, epoxy and
cement potting, conformal coating, hermetic sealing, lead
stamping and lead forming. Laboratory facilities provide the
capability for: burn in, life test, thermal shock, moisture
resistance, and temperature coefficient testing to monitor resistor
function, quality and design. A fully functional machine shop
offers milling, grinding, welding, metal heat-treating and lathe
work support manufacturing and design functions. In Q3-1993
the entire manufacturing facility was redesigned and renovated to
create a better workflow.
KRL received ISO-9001 approval in the 4th quarter of 1997. The
maintenance of this approval focuses on "quality at the source," a
philosophy of building quality in from the beginning of the
manufacturing process rather than depending on inspection for
quality at the end of the process. This approval is a requirement
for selling in The European Economic Community, and is fast
becoming required by the larger US manufacturers.
Employees
KRL’s employees number approximately 110, many of whom
have been with KRL for over 15 years. Several KRL employees'
careers date back to RCL and employment under Mr. Perry Sr.,
for up to 40+ years. The knowledge base of KRL’s employees is
extensive, with a tremendous level of cross training in the many
resistor-manufacturing processes.
The State of New Hampshire-Business Visitation Program
opened the door for KRL to participate in various programs
involving DRED, DES, the New Hampshire Job Training
Council, and the OSHA, including the OSHA safety section's
"Consultation Program". Mr. B.J. Perry Jr. was appointed to
Governor Merrill's Worker's Compensation Study Committee
because of his devotion to his employees, his commitment to
worker's safety, and the company's prospects for future
employment and company expansion in New Hampshire.
Future

KRL ORDER CODE SYSTEM:
This order code system has been set up to enable you to specify any of the standard or optional specifications shown in this
catalog. This easy to use ordering method incorporates: Style; Temperature Coefficient; Resistance Value; and Tolerance.
NOTE: If you order a resistor by specifying only the style, Resistance, Value and Tolerance… KRL will manufacture to standard
specification unless otherwise indicated.
(1) No symbol here is for standard wound resistors. "H" High Speed; "S"
Special Purpose; "N" Non-inductive (Power Resistors Only – The
standard method for winding for Precision Resistors is non-inductive).
(2) Style indicates the configuration, size, and power rating, as specified
on the pertinent website page.
(3) Lead Material… See Lead Material Chart above.
(4) Temperature Coefficient… See Temperature Coefficient Chart above.
(5) Resistance Value… Specify resistance in ohms. Most values are
specified via a 4-digit code: the first three digits are significant figures and
the fourth digit is the multiplier, i.e., the number of zeroes to follow (e.g.,
250K = 22503; 2.55K = 2551; 255 = 2550). For values under 100 , ‘R’
is used for the decimal (e.g., 39 = 39R0; .025 = R025) For values with
more then 3 significant figures, use additional digits as necessary (e.g.,
255.5K = 25552; 2.555K = 25550)
(6) Tolerance... See Tolerance Order Code above.
Exact interchangeability is not implied, as there are some minor
differences
which may exist.

Four Terminal Low-OHM NON-INDUCTIVE Resistors
KRL's Four Terminal Low-OHM Resistors were designed for low
resistance applications requiring the highest accuracy and
temperature stability. When used in a "Kelvin" configuration,
applying current through two opposite leads and sensing voltage
across the other two leads, the resistance and temperature
coefficient of the leads are effectively eliminated. This results in
lower TC's and lower self-heating drift than with two terminal
resistors, and eliminates the need for connecting to the leads at
precise "test points", allowing tighter tolerances to be held as well.
Features:
Resistance Range: .005 -.1 standard; .001 -100 available
Standard Tolerances: 5%, 3%, 1%, .5%, .25%.
(.1% available for .02 and higher)
Operating Temperature Range: -55°C to +200°C
Temperature Coefficient, 0°C to 85°C:
±50 ppm/°C, .015 and higher; ±100 ppm/°C below .015 .
Environmental Performance: exceeds the requirements of MIL-

NON FLAME FUSIBLE METAL FILM POWER RESISTORS
The FPR Nonflame Fusible Metal Film Resistors were designed
to limit thermal surge and resulting circuit damage due to excessive
voltage. FPR Resistors provide reliable and accurate blow
characteristics. The FPR resistors fail in an open mode. The
resistors are available in ohmic values from .22 to 100K , and
wattage sizes from 1/2 to 3 watts.
Various telephone power line and tip & ring circuits utilize the FPR
resistor to protect sensitive parts from lightning strike surges. Other
circuits that would benefit from these fusible resistors are inputs that
may be exposed to line voltage faults or power supplies that need
current limiting with a safe, nonflame failure mode. Since each circuit
has different and custom requirements, KRL/Bantry will work with
your engineering staff to help choose the correct part for your
application.
