Real-Time Requirements
Windows 2000 and Windows NT are not real-time operating system s. Real- time
requi r em ents cannot t her efore be met.
As a result, it is possible that when starting progr am s or reading files, your
application is not executed for several 100 ms.

times approaching those of a real-time system:
• You should have enough mem or y so that W indows only seldom needs to use

4.2 Starting the Simple Sample Program
Purpose of the “ExamEasy” Sample Progra m
Apart from familiar iz ing DP programm er s with the program, the sim ple sample
program can also be used to test c ommunicati on with a DP slave.
To use this function, you must have a DP slave with at least one i nput and out put
byte. In the supplied ExamEasy sam ple STE P 7 project, the slav e is confi gur ed as
an ET 200B at node addres s 3; the data transmission rate is 1.5 Mbps.
Even if you have more than one CP 5613 or CP 5614, t he pr ogr am always uses
the acc ess point “ CP _L2_1:”.

Purpose of the “ExamFast” Sample Program
The “ExamFast” sampl e pr ogr am explains the “F ast Logic ” functionali ty of the DP
m aster . You will get to know the functions DP_fast_l ogic _on, DP_fast_logi c _off and
how to handle F ast- Logic semaphores.
If several CP 5613 or CP 5614 m odules exi st, you c an sel ec t t he CP to be used
when you start the program . I D 2 is always used as the Fast Logic ID.

Purpose of the “Transfer” Sample Program
Apart from familiar iz ing DP programm er s, the T r ansfer sample program can be
used to test t he c ommunicati on with more than one DP sl av e and a higher - lev el
m aster . If several CP 5613 or CP 5614 m odules exist, y ou can select the CP to be
used when you start the pr ogr am .
Explanation of the Transfer Functi onality
The CP 5614 is suitable for hier ar c hic ally struct ur ed networks. The master sect ion
of t he CP 5614 oper ates wi th “subordi nate” actuator s and sensors on it s own bus
segment . The slave m odule of the CP 5614 is attached to a contr olling stati on v ia a
separate bu s segment .
One f unc tion that is oft en r equir ed is the passing on of actuator and sensor data to
the control system. The soft ware that provides this func tionality is known as the
Transfer software.

With a transfer configurat ion progr am, y ou can specify which data from the
actuators or sensors are pas sed on to the cont r ol system (see Section 4.6).
The sam ple suppl ied (STE P 7 project and transf er configuration fil e) was wri tten for
a slave ET 200B and a CP 5614.

bit to an output bit is confi gur ed in the “transfer.tr a” file. A data tr ansfer from the
slave module of the CP 5614 bits 0 to 6 to an ET 200B starti ng at bit 1 is also
configured.
Note
If y our DP env ir onm ent is differ ent f r om the one r equir ed for this exam ple, cr eate a
suitable STEP 7 proj ect with SIMATIC NCM PC or STEP 7 V5.1 SP2. The slave
propert ies of t he CP 5614 are set in the “Sampl e.G S D” file. If you want to define a
differ ent number of input/out put ports for the CP 5614, please edit this file and
creat e a new GSD file for the CP 5614.

1.1 OPC Client- Setup für DCOM-Betrieb
DCOM-Betrieb
Für den DCO M-Bet r ieb muss auf dem Cli ent -Rechner eine Mini mal-I nstallati on
durchgeführ t werden. Dabei werden di e benöti gten und von der O P C- Foundation
bereitgestel lten Komponenten und der OP C-Scout i nstalliert und registr iert.
Nach der Instal lation muss der DCO M-Bet r ieb eingeric htet werden. Beachten Sie
dazu das entsprechende Kapitel im Handbuch „ Industriel le Kommunikati on mit
PG/PC“ bz w. die HTM L- Onl ine- Hilfe.
Vorgehensweise
Gehen Sie bitte wie folgt z ur Instal lat ion der S oftware für den OPC-Client- Rec hner

2.2 FMS-Protokoll
Viele Verbindungen und große O bj ektverzeichnisse
Der OPC-Server baut die not wendigen F MS-Verbindungen unmi ttelbar nach dem
Ei nfügen des ersten It ems ei ner V er bindung auf. Fügt man Items, die vielen Ver -
bindungen z ugeor dnet sind, in eine Gr uppe ein, so müssen nacheinander viel e
Verbindungen aufgebaut werden.
Im Normalfall umfasst der Ver bindungsaufbau auch das Laden des Obj ek tver-
zei c hnisses vom Partnergerät. Dieser Vorgang nimmt in Abhängigkeit von der
Projekt ierung des Partnergeräts erhebl iche Zei t i n A nspruch, so dass unter Um-
ständen die Über wachungszeit ei ner V er bindung ablaufen k ann. Das hat zur Fol -
ge, dass der OPC-S er ver diese Verbindung wieder abbaut und die Ver bindung
nic ht benutz t werden kann.
In diesem Fal l sollten di e Obj ek tverzeichnisse der Partner ger äte unabhängi g vom
OPC- B etrieb i n der P r ojektierung festgelegt werden.
Beacht en S ie jedoch, dass Sie nac h Ä nder ungen der P r ojektierung des Part ner ge-
räts, die das Objekt ver z eichnis betreffen, das projekt ierte Objektverzeichnis auf
den aktuellen St and br ingen müssen.
Aufba u von asymmetrischen FMS-Verbindungen
Zu den asymmetri schen FMS-Verbindungen zähl t man Verbi ndungen mit den
Verbindungsattr ibut en I-D (I ist akt iver Par tner), I - O (I ak ti ver P ar tner) und D- O (D
aktiver P ar tner). Sie werden als asymmetrisch bezei c hnet, da an diesen Verbin-
dungen zwei St ati onen tei lnehmen, deren Roll e beim Ver bindungsaufbau unter -
schiedli c h ist. Während bei dem am häufi gsten benutzt en V er bindungstyp D- D je-
der der beiden Endstat ionen die Verbindung ak ti v zu der ander en S tation aufbau-
en kann, ist die Rol le des aktiven Ver bindungsaufbaus bei der I-D Ver bindung nur
dem I-Par tner zugeor dnet. B er üc k si c htigt man diese Rollenvertei lung bei der Pr o-
jek ti er ung nicht, so kann u. U. der V er bindungsaufbau mi sslingen.

Es können mit dem O P C-Scout beim Browsi ng maximal 256 Item-Einträge in ei -
ner Ebene angezeigt werden.
Ak tivieren von „nur schreibbaren“ OPC-Items
Akt ive O P C- Items werden durch den OP C- S er ver beobac htet. Werden Leseauf-
träge auf „nur schreibbare“ V ar iablen durchgeführt , so bauen manc he P ar tnerge-
räte die Ver bindung ab und erst nac h einiger Zei t wieder auf. Eini ge P ar tnergeräte
reagi er en jedoch negati v auf solche A uftr äge. Deshalb dürfen „nur schreibbare“
Variablen nie aktivi ert werden. Im OPC-Scout erreicht m an dies, indem man diese

1 Notes on Installation
1.1 OPC Client Setup for DCOM Operation
DCOM Operation
For DCOM operati on, a mini mum install ati on is requi r ed on the cli ent comput er .
This involves install ing and registering t he r equired c omponents provided by the
OPC Foundation and t he OPC Sc out.
Foll owing install ation, DCOM operati on must be set up. For mor e infor mati on,
refer to the r elevant to chapt er in t he “ Industrial Comm unicati on with PG /PC”
m anual or the section i n the HT M L online hel p.
Procedure
To instal l t he soft ware for the OP C c lient c omputer, fol low the steps outl ined
below:
Step Description
1 St ar t your c omputer wit h M icr osoft Wi ndows 2000 or Windows NT 4.0.
2 Log on as administrat or with the Windows system.
3 Insert the SI M A TIC NE T CD i n y our CD- ROM drive.
4 Exit the i nstallat ion progr am if it is started automatically fr om the CD.
5 Go to the fol der “ \sw\opc _c lient\di sk1” on the SI M A TIC NE T CD.
6 St ar t the “ S etup.exe” pr ogr am.
7 Enter the name of the computer on which the OPC Server will be
started.
8 When you have c omplet ed the i nstallation, y ou must then set the
DCOM c onfi gur ati on as descri bed in t he manual.

2.1 DP Protocol
Watchdog
The t ime set wit h “ Watchdog Ti meout” in the c onfi gur ati on ( defaul t 6000
milliseconds) is l oaded on the CP as the watchdog t ime.
In som e si tuations, it is necessary to increase this time to pr event the watchdog
timi ng out due to interrupti ons caused by the oper ati ng system.

2.2 FMS Protocol
Large Numbers of Connections and Large Object Dictionaries
The O P C S er ver establishes the requir ed FMS c onnec ti ons i mmediat ely after the
fi r st it em of a connecti on is added. I f you add items to a gr oup and they are
assi gned to a l ot of connec ti ons, a lot of connecti ons must be establ ished one after
the ot her .
Normal ly, connection establ ishm ent al so i nvolves loading the object di c tionary
from t he par tner device. Depending on t he c onfi gur ati on of the par tner device, thi s
can tak e a c onsi der able t ime and it is quite possi ble t hat a connecti on will time out.
If thi s happens, the OPC Ser ver terminates the c onnec ti on and the connec ti on
cannot be used.
In t his case, the object di c tionaries of the part ner devices should be included i n the
loc al confi gur ati on independent of OP C oper ati on.
Rem ember , however, that if any c hanges are made t o the configurati on of the
partner device that involve the object di c ti onar y , the locally confi gur ed object
dic ti onar y must also be updated.
Establishing Asymmetrical FMS Connections
The asymmetr ical FMS c onnec ti ons i nc lude t he c onnec ti ons with the connecti on
att r ibut es I- D ( I i s act ive partner), I- O (I is active partner) and D- O (D is active
partner ) . They ar e c alled asym metrical because the two stati ons that tak e par t i n
communi c ati on on these connect ions have different r oles duri ng establishment.
Whi le either of the end stati ons can establi sh the c onnec ti on ac ti vely to the par tner
on the most common type of connect ion (D- D) , the r ole of active connec ti on
establishm ent on an I- D c onnec ti on is reserved only for t he I part ner . If these
differing roles are not taken into ac c ount when defining t he c onfigur ati on,
connect ion establi shment may fail .

2.4 SEND/RECEIVE Protocol
Direct Access to the S5 I/O
If an S 5 output is written directl y usi ng the SEND/RECEIVE pr otocol, thi s val ue
will be overwritten by the process im age in the next cycle. This behavior can be
att r ibut ed to the S 5 handling blocks.
Making permanent c hanges to the outputs using di r ec t access is possible only by
writing t o the process image (Q area) .

rel eased by Siemens.
Activating “Write-Only” OPC Items
Act ive O P C it ems are monitor ed by the OP C S er ver by the server sendi ng r ead
jobs over t he network. I f, however , the server attempts to read write-only
SEND/ RE CE IVE var iables, the par tner t er minat es the c onnec ti on and establishes
it agai n only after a c er tai n ti me. “Wr it e- only” OPC items must t her efore not be
activated.

Performance
The O P C S c out i s a cli ent i ntended as a tool for testi ng and c ommissioni ng. When
operating wit h large number s of variables, l ong r eac ti on times can result
depending on the perfor manc e of the c omputer and t he pr otocol you use.
Generating Values
It is not possibl e to writ e to array s or t o gener ate negat ive val ues with the
“Gener ate Values” Scout funct ion.
Browsing
When browsing with the OP C scout , a maxi mum of 256 entr ies can be di spl ay ed
at one level .
