Raspberry Shake - Home Earthquake Monitor
(RS1D)
SEN-14835
DESCRIPTION INCLUDES DOCUMENTS
This shake brings an easy-to-use earthquake monitor to the yard! Developed
and made on a literal volcano, the Raspberry Shake is a highly accurate
seismograph you can use in your home, office, and classroom. This Raspberry
Pi accessory uses a single, vertical geophone as its sensor – a very sensitive
yet rugged Earth motion microphone widely used in the oil and gas industry, to
detect seismic vibration. The Raspberry Shake was originally designed with
citizen scientists and educational facilities in mind, but can easily be used by
other hobbyists, makers, and enthusiasts, as well!
Included with this kit is everything you need to equip your Raspberry Pi Zero, Pi
Zero W, 3 Model B, 3 Model B+, 2 Model B, Model B and Model B+ with
everything it needs to detect and measure earthquakes and seismic activities
like fracking, explosions, eruptions, avalanches, landslides, and more. All you
need supply is the Raspberry Pi itself.
Note: The Raspberry Shake Home Earthquake Monitor only includes the parts
found in the Includes Tab. This kit will require some assembly and does NOT
include a Raspberry Pi or power source. These items will need to be purchased
separately.

I have one set up and running in my garage. Assembly is trivial, and after that it is plug and play. It provides a
web interface for configuring the location, after which it broadcasts to a network
(https://raspberryshake.net/stationview). The online documentation provides security guidance (ie, change the
default password).
It is very sensitive. I can tell when I’m walking around my house. I am a little concerned about someone using
this as a way to tell when I’m out. Something to consider.
There is a store at the raspberryshake homepage that offers weatherproof enclosures. This kit is obviously not
that.

Ah man this is so cool! Definitely one to add to my wishlist :) So does the pi sitting inside of the enclosure have
any way to be sealed off from the elements? (i might not understand something here, if so sorry!)
