3.0 3M External Cable Assembly Module (ECAM) Preparation
3.1 Unscrew ECAM nut from body.
3.2 Loosen clamp screw 3-4 turns.
3.3 A screwdriver can be used to open clamps slightly.
This will allow the flexible conduit to pass clamp
through the clamp freely.

3.4 Push supplied grommet into pocket in 3M
External Cable Assembly Module (ECAM)
body. Grommet must be flush with the end of the
ECAM body.
4.0 3M External Cable Assembly Module (ECAM) Installation on
Miniature Conduit
4.1 Route flexible miniature conduit per company
practice. Allow slack as needed for terminal and
drop routing.
4.2 Slide ECAM components onto conduit as shown.
6 78-8140-6294-5-A
4.3 Allow ½ to 1 inch of the flexible conduit to
protrude from end of body. Tighten 3M External
Cable Assembly Module (ECAM) nut onto body
until there is no gap between the nut and the body.
NOTE: DO NOT TIGHTEN CLAMP AT THIS TIME!
It may not be possible to feed fiber through if clamps
are tightened before routing the fiber through the
conduit.
No Gap
4.4 A tie wrap can be used to secure the conduit to the
end of the body.
4.5 Feed the connectorized fiber through conduit and
assemble the connector per company practice.
Allow 21–23 inches (530–580 mm) of slack for
routing fiber in the 3M Fiber Dome Stubbed
Terminal FDST-08S.
4.6 Tighten clamp screw using a screw driver or a ¼”
(7 mm) nut driver. Torque clamp screws to 20 in-lbs
(2.3 N-m)

5.0 3M External Cable Assembly Module (ECAM) Installation in Closure Base
5.1 Determine port to be used in closure base. Select a
port with considerations for fiber routing and fiber
management. Unlock port plug by squeezing the
tabs and pulling the plug out at the same time.
5.2 Ensure port in base and the ECAM O-ring is clean.
If needed lightly lube ECAM O-ring using supplied
silicone grease.
Note: Follow health, safety and environmental
information. Refer to product label or Material Safety
Data Sheet for silicone lubricant.
8 78-8140-6294-5-A
5.3 Feed fiber through port and push the 3M External
Cable Assembly Module (ECAM) firmly into port
after aligning the hex on ECAM with hex opening
in base. Note that the ECAM can be rotated and
installed in six different orientations.
Note: Take care not to kink fiber during installation of
ECAM.
5.4 Install locking fork by sliding fork into groove
on the ECAM body. Hold the fork parallel to the
groove during installation. Ensure locking fork is
fully seated in groove on ECAM.
5.5 Route and connect fiber in terminal as needed.
