Introduction
These instructions guide you through a concrete example illustrating how to read a
code and during which you will become familiar with the basic functions of the
Vision Sensor SIMATIC VS130-2/VS130-2vcr. The references to the manual and
the online help will also help you to get a general overview of the information it
contains.
Depending on your degree of experience, working through the sample will take
between one and two hours.
With the Vision Sensor SIMATIC VS130-2/VS130-2vcr you can capture the
labeling codes of products quickly, reliably, and inexpensively and then send the
read code to a controller or computer.
The Vision Sensor SIMATIC VS130-2 reads data matrix, QR- and PDF417 codes
and operates with overhead lighting. The object is lit from above with the supplied
ring flash.
The Vision Sensor SIMATIC VS130-2vcr reads Vericodes and also operates with
overhead lighting.
Prerequisites
You have completed the installation and wiring based on the accompanying
hardware installation instructions. You have also established 2 connections:
Connection between PC and processing unit over Ethernet
A connection from your Web browser (for example Internet Explorer) to the
setup support using the Hyper Text Transfer Protocol (HTTP).
(For more detailed information, refer to the online help)
The following components are available.
Components:
Trigger signal to trigger evaluation.
Vision Sensor SIMATIC VS130-2 or VS130-2vcr comprising:
- a sensor head with CCD sensor chip (CCD = Charge Coupled Device) for
sensing the code.
- a processing unit for code evaluation, output of results, PROFIBUS
interfacing, and parameter assignment
- where applicable, an LED overhead lighting unit, red, degree of
protection IP65 as ring flash (order number 6GF9 004-8BA)

Adjusting the Sensor
Before you commission the Vision Sensor SIMATIC VS130-2/VS130-2vcr, you
must adjust the sensor head correctly using the setup support on a PG / PC. The
setup support shows you an image as seen by the sensor head.
Step Activity Result
1 1. Turn on the PG /PC and wait until the computer
has booted.
2. Turn on the processing unit.
3. Start your Web browser.
4. Enter the IP address of the processing unit.
5. In the dialog that opens, click on Adjust Sensor.
Note: It may take several seconds for the page to
display.
6. Click on the Adjustment button if a dialog other
than the Adjust Sensor dialog is open.
Once the setup support has started,
the sensor field of view is displayed on
your PC/PG monitor. The displayed
image is updated several times per
second.
2 Adjusting the Sensor
1. Bring the code into the image.
2. Focus the code by changing the distance between the sensor and the code.
3. Check that Auto V1 or Auto is set in the Exposure drop-down list box..
4. Optimize the image quality of the code in the image.
As soon as after “Recognition” the message "Successfully finished" appears, the code has
been successfully decoded. You will see the result of the read in the "Result" box.
If the decoding is successful, you will see the weaknesses in the current adjustment at the
bottom right. By eliminating these weaknesses, you can improve the read reliability of the
VS130-2/VS130-2vcr.
Note:
If you have too many errors, clean the lens and diffuser with a lint-free cloth.
3 Secure the sensor and then check the correct sensor position.
