Cable Fanout in 2178 Fiber Optic Splice Case Tech Brief Cable Fanout Units are used to protect and organize the fibers in the fiber optic closure at the point where the buffer tube is cut. Cable fanouts are usually required for cable with a single large loose buffer. The placement of the fanout unit in the 2178 Fiber Optic Splice Case should be as close to the end of the cable sheath as possible. Position the fanout unit in the base of the closure, between the entry port and the splice tray support, to allow the maximum space for routing the buffer tubes and maintaining the required bend radius.
